A very wet day, from before the beginning until long after the ending.  Only the "regular" attendees appeared, with the surprise exception of long-time member Lloyd Dickson.  As is usual for us Keiths, we all stayed the course and were not scared away by the rain.  Society Field Officers in attendance were:  Marshall Thombs who sponsored this games and is the Maine State Convener, and Alice Hattenbrun who is the New Hampshire State Convener.

Picture 1: As the rain rains, the tents slowly get put up.  Once again, thanks to Robin, we had our Aberdeen room and waterproof sides all around and above both tents.

Picture 2: Robin and Kristen.  Hmmm....warming themselves with a little libation, perhaps !!

Picture 3: Good friends of Clan Keith are Bonnie & Alec Hay, who are seen here with Alice in the Hays' tent.

Picture 4: Alice - waiting for the sun to rise !

Picture 5: Plenty of great food, drink and conversation kept us warm all day.  (L to R) Front is Linda and Carol.  Back is Art, Lloyd, Alice & David.  Continued to the right in next shot....

Picture 6: Dick & Betty, Robin's Mom.

Our thanks to Marshall and Nora for a Great Day in Maine !!

After a week of ever changing weather forecasts, we lucked out and had glorious sunshine, All Day Long.  The crowds began arriving early and the Keiths, Marshalls, Harveys, Dicksons arrived in full force with food and appetites and plans for a day of comraderie in an over-flowing, double tent, at the Clan Keith site

Picture 2: (Lto R) "The Girls" - Kristen, Alice & Carol.  Descendents of the Rev. James Keith of Old Bridgewater, MA.

Picture 3: Alice, NH State Convener for CKS,USA, prepares to greet guests on clan row.  Susan, friend of Clan Keith, can be seen in the 'Aberdeen' social tent, behind the main tent.  Our 'Aberdeen' extension is kindly brought by Robin, also at an early hour.

Picture 4: Clan Row #1   The castle seen here was base for the Honored Clan McDuff and the Honorary Chieftain of the Games, who is our dear friend, Jane Robitaille.

Picture 5: Clan Row #2   Set up this year gave a 'village' type atmosphere, with avenues connecting the main rows.

Picture 6: (L to R) Robert Knight admires the dirk he just acquired from Master Craftsman David Hattenbrun.

Picture 7: (L to R) "The War Room" - Stewart and David in heavy discussions.

This was our last year at Oak Park and we shall miss it.  This little games has grown so much, that they need to find a larger venue.  No matter where the Board of Directors decides to move, we shall be back next year.  All of us, I'm sure.

We were blessed with perfect weather this year, even Thursday set-up day was sunny !!  We haven't seen a perfect weekend like this, since our Chief attended these games in 1997.  This year Alice Hattenbrün took on additional duties as Chairman of the Clans Committee for the games.  This, in addition to, as she usually is, being the Clan Keith rep - sponsoring the clan tent site, setting up, and manning the tent along with lots of help from fellow clansmen.  We had our usual dueling grills in the 'back yard' and the food and drink were abundant.

Picture 1: New banner on the Keith tent.  Designed and made by Alice.  Such a talent !

Picture 2: Alice is all set and ready for company at the Clan Keith tent.

Picture 3: Saturday morning, opening ceremonies.  Alice, as the Clan Marshal, is seen here reviewing the clans.

Picture 4: "The Clans are Gathered"

Picture 5: Clan Marshal leads the honorary Chieftains of the games to inspect the clan representatives.

Picture 6: Signal for dismissal, the duty band strikes up, and the clans are marched off the field by the Clan Marshal.

Picture 7: Everyone back at the tent, and after a great lunch, all sit to relax.  Here is Doug and Robin.  Doug's first games in his New Kilt !!  Yeah Doug.  Robin has just been presented with the "New England Clansman of the Year Award", for all that she does, above and beyond the call of duty.

Picture 8: Award was especially made for Robin by David Hattenbrün.  Robin is admiring David's clever personalized carving.

Picture 9: Sue & Dewey get to check out Robin's award....from the outside.

Picture 10: Jason with his son Brian joined us both on Saturday and Sunday.

Picture 11: Kristen with Jason, who was home on leave, and got to attend 2 of our New England games before he was reassigned to duty in England.

Picture 12: (L to R) Doug Killen, Stewart Harvey, and Stewart's son Elliot Harvey.....stewards of our tent.

Others who visited but aren't in the pictures:  John; Gail & Ray; Chris, Allegra & Adrienne; Jim & LoriAnn and their kids; Josiah & Alec; Dick & Marty and family; Kathleen; Sarah; Jeff; Art & Linda; Fred; David & Bette; Bob & Marian; Meg & John; Jim & Victoria; Ian & Cristina; Carol; Patrick & Sarah; and Judy too !!

Thanks to all for everything and for making this the very best of the best !! -Alice

Picture 1: Clans and Societies begin lining up, in preparation for Opening Ceremonies.  Bob & Nancy Keith, who usually represent Clan Keith at this games, were attending a wedding, and also celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary.  Alice & David Hattenbrun set-up in their absence.  Alice (center) is seen here, carrying her Keith tartan banner.  It was a 2 1/2 hour drive through a few rain patches to get to the 'fog' in Rhode Island.  Once the fog burnt off, other Keiths appeared !! and a great day was had by all.

Picture 2: Waiting to be escorted onto the field for opening ceremonies, old friends catch up on what's happened over the winter.  Alice is seen here talking with Joyce Dell and Rich Cargill of the Rhode Island Saint Andrew's Society.  Joyce and Alice are the former presidents of their respective state's Saint Andrew's Societies.

Many of the valiant men and women from Vermont who are serving our country in far away places, many under battle conditions, were expected home to Vermont on leave or rotation in April and many more have received orders to report to duty in the not too distant future.  This Highland Gathering was to honor them all.

Picture 1: Opening ceremonies begin.  David Hattenbrun (center) carries the Keith tartan banner onto the field. Hattenbrun is 1st Lt. (Ret) USAFR.  This is a zoomed picture from across the field.  All photos by Alice Hattenbrun.

Picture 2: The gathering was held at the Beebe Farm on their beautifully manicured grounds which provided a perfect welcome and festival for our troops and clans.  We were surrounded by the majestic Green Mountains, nestled in the valley of the Battenkill,  A glorious site.

Picture 3: We were proud to participate as representatives of Clan Keith and as Americans welcoming our troops home.  We met, spoke, and socialized with several of our service people - we can be proud.

Picture 4: All troops of the Vermont National Guard and all the Services in Reserve were invited to attend and participate as a “clan” in the “March of the Clans” and introduced to visiting dignitaries of Vermont.  The Scottish-American Military Society (SAMS) Liberty Post 1776 was the honored "clan", and our friend, Command Sergeant Major Vern Dingman (US Army, Retired) was "Chieftain of the Games".  SAMS is a nationally chartered non-profit veterans organization, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of both Scottish and American Armed Forces customs and traditions.

Picture 5: Notice the Keith tartan in the back row of the color guard, 2nd from the left.  That's J. Stewart Harvey of Acton, MA.  Life member of Clan Keith and proud Marine.

Picture 6: A moment of silence.

Picture 7: Here we are, back at our cabins after a very successful and fun festival.  (L to r) Stewart Harvey, David Hattenbrun, and friends, Bonnie and Alec Hay.  All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Southwestern Vermont Armed Forces Fund to be used for the families of our troops.

And to honor our own:
